Carpet tile is modular carpet — squares (typically 18" or 24") installed with releasable adhesive over the subfloor. Damaged tiles can be lifted and replaced individually, which makes it the dominant choice for offices, multi-family hallways, and basements.
Per-square-foot pricing is typically higher than equivalent broadloom, but installation is faster (no stretch, no pad in most cases) and lifecycle cost is lower for high-traffic commercial environments.
Layout direction matters — quarter-turn vs. monolithic vs. random installation patterns produce very different visual effects from the same product. Always confirm pattern direction with the customer before install.
