Certificate of Insurance (COI)

A document proving the contractor's liability and workers' comp insurance, often required before crew access.

A Certificate of Insurance (COI) is a one-page summary of a contractor's insurance policies — general liability, workers' compensation, auto, and any project-specific endorsements. The COI lists the limits, the policy numbers, and (when needed) names the building owner or general contractor as additional insured.

COIs are required by most condo associations, commercial property managers, and commercial GCs before a flooring crew can access the building. Some require a fresh COI per project; others accept an annual blanket COI.

Per-customer notes that flag "COI required, building owner name as AI" turn this from a job-blocker into pre-job prep that the office handles a week ahead.
