Trim and Base

Quarter-round, shoe molding, and baseboard that hide the expansion gap and finish the perimeter.

Trim and base are the finish-carpentry pieces that hide the expansion gap and visually terminate the floor at the wall. Quarter-round and shoe molding are the smallest pieces, installed on top of existing baseboard. Replacement baseboard goes the full distance from floor to drywall.

Material choice matters: paint-grade MDF for budget jobs, primed pine or poplar for mid-tier, hardwood matching the floor for premium. Pre-finished options (color-matched to the flooring) save site finish labor.

Always quote trim and base as their own line items per linear foot. Skipping this on the estimate sets up the "I thought trim was included" dispute on closeout.
