Stair Nosing

The bullnose-shaped trim piece installed on the leading edge of a stair tread.

Stair nosing (or bull nose) is the rounded or beveled trim piece installed on the front edge of each stair tread. It protects the tread edge from wear, provides a visual indicator for foot placement, and is often required by building code for slip resistance.

Most flooring lines sell matched stair nosing as a separately ordered SKU. Pre-finished hardwood and LVP nosings are typical $25-$60 per piece.

Stair install is one of the highest-labor parts of any flooring job — typically 1-2 hours per tread, depending on cuts and finishing. Price stair install per stair (not per sqft) and quote it as a separate line item.
