Labor Hours Estimator
Stop guessing how long the install will take.
Crew scheduling falls apart when labor estimates are wrong. Enter the room's square footage, pick the material, and we'll estimate install hours for a 2-person crew using industry-standard productivity rates. Use the result to set a realistic completion date and price labor accurately.
How to use it
- Enter sqft. Total installable square footage.
- Pick material. LVP, engineered hardwood, solid hardwood, porcelain tile, or carpet.
- Set crew size. Default 2 installers. Adjust for solo or larger crews.
- Read the estimate. Hours assume an experienced crew on prep-ready subfloor. Add hours for demo, leveling, or stairs.
FAQ
What productivity rates do you use?+
LVP click-lock: ~50 sqft/hour per installer. Engineered hardwood glue-down: ~30 sqft/hour. Solid nail-down hardwood: ~25 sqft/hour. Porcelain tile: ~20 sqft/hour. Carpet roll: ~40 sqft/hour. These are realistic averages for prep-ready subfloor; actual rates vary with cuts, transitions, and crew experience.
Should I add extra hours for demo and prep?+
Yes. Demo runs 10-20% of install time. Self-leveling adds 4-8 hours per pour cycle (mostly cure time). Stair install runs 1-2 hours per stair tread. Treat these as separate line items.
How does this affect labor pricing?+
Multiply estimated hours × your loaded labor rate ($60-$100/hour for installer + overhead). Compare to per-sqft pricing and price the higher of the two — sqft pricing keeps you competitive on simple jobs, hourly keeps you safe on complex ones.
