Material Quantity Calculator
Translate sqft into the exact box count you need to order.
Suppliers ship by the box, not by the square foot. Enter the room's square footage, the box coverage from the spec sheet, and your waste factor — we'll round up to the nearest full box and tell you the order quantity in boxes and total square feet.
How to use it
- Enter installable sqft. From the customer's room or our square footage calculator.
- Enter box coverage. Read 'sqft per box' off the manufacturer spec sheet — usually 18-30 sqft for LVP, 20-25 sqft for hardwood, varies for tile.
- Set waste factor. 10% for straight, 15% diagonal, 20% complex.
- Read box count. We round up to the next whole box so you don't show up short.
FAQ
Should I always round up?+
Yes. Suppliers don't sell partial boxes, and a half-day return trip costs more than a leftover box. Keep the extras for warranty repairs and matching future change orders.
How do I handle multiple rooms with different patterns?+
Calculate each room separately with its own pattern's waste factor, then add the box counts. Mixing waste factors across rooms is the most common over/under ordering bug.
Does this work for carpet?+
Use it for square-cut carpet tile. For roll carpet, switch to linear-foot pricing — the math is different because of roll width and seam placement.
